Unnecessary “fillers” in our speech. I’d rather have “like” than up-talking, though (if we had to choose one, that is). Ewwww, up-talking. Then again, a combination of the two would render me homicidal maniac.

Like, did you ever notice? That, like, the speech patterns people, like, think are stupid? Are, like, commonly associated with, like, women?

And, like, there’s this thing? Where, like, women aren’t supposed to be, like, assertive? So they, like, qualify their speech? Because, like, we’re not supposed to, like, stand by our opinions?

1) humiliate women so they don’t feel qualified to speak authoritatively about anything

2) humiliate women for speaking in such a way that reflects how you treat her

3) laugh, you are superior because you don’t use words like “like.” It isn’t as if being a huge stupid asshole has ever made you worse than a woman who speaks with verbal tics.

Do you need someone to look after your cat/dog/fish/water your plants/make sure your broadband doesn’t get lonely/keep the dents in your sofa going? I can be that person for you.

I’ve housesat for awesome people people before and am currently looking for more opportunities to do so over the summer. All of them will tell you how totally awesome I am and how happy their pets/sofa dents were when they came back.

I’m not looking to throw parties, drink all your booze, or stage an orgy in the front room, just somewhere to get some work done away from my family/housemates.

When I think of successful chat up attempts I’ve tried in the past I cringe deep: once I stuck my hand in a man’s mouth and said “Your teeth are amazing”, another I started absentmindedly rubbing someone’s head as they sat next to me. A particularly memorable occasion shifted from ‘chatting on my bed’ to ‘heavy making out’ when I said, somewhat woozily, “I think it’s very important that I take my dress off right now”. No matter how fun each of the subsequent moments were I’m not sure I would be able to replicate the ‘flirting’ again.

As somebody who identifies as a spoonie, what are your thoughts on people who don't have chronic illnesses adopting that label? I'm autistic, and have MH issues both relating to and separate to that. I found that the Spoon Theory was a brilliant analogy to explain to my boyfriend how difficult it is sometimes to get through tasks that he doesn't even have to think about. But largely this is mental, not physical, so I feel it's kinda dodgy for me to co-opt that term. What do you think?

I think it’s totally fine! I think people underestimate how big an impact our mental health can have on our day to day lives and if it helps to get the point across it’s totally worth ID-ing as such.

We are indeed non-monogamous.

Honestly if you’d asked me this time last year if I’d have seen myself in this position I’d have said no. I thought I was a really jealous person, but I really don’t get jealous. The partners that we have fulfil different needs and aspects of our personalities. I feel like if I were to get jealous about him having other partners then I’d have to be jealous that my best friend has other friends. And that my mother has another child. And that my goldfish love each other more than me.

I’m being flippant, sorry.

As for him leaving me for someone else he meets and likes more (which is often a reason to jealously guard partners)… he could do that anyway. Most of us have probably been left for other people in monogamous relationships, I certainly have, and I’ve done it to other people. Rather than spend all my time trying to keep him all mine like Gollum and the ring, I’d rather enjoy the time we do have together (however long that may turn out to be) and make the most of it.

I'm going on a date with a girl (I am girl too) and she is in a relationship with a guy already. I am open to a poly relationship but this is not something I have had experience in and I'm starting to get nervous. Any advice please?

Treat it like a regular date. It’s really easy to start asking yourself questions about where you’re going to fit into this person’s life, or what this means to them, or how life will be when/if you start dating, but that stuff is way down the line, and also something that you will work out together.

If while you’re on the date things start looking good and you feel like you want to talk to them about how it’ll pan out, or what they maybe want from this, without it being way too intense for a first date, then do it. In fact even if it’s a bit intense that’s ok too, just ask nicely, and politely, and be prepared to actually listen and talk it through with them. They’re probably totally used to talking about being poly a lot, so will be ready and willing to chat about it with you if you’re gonna be part of their life.

Also: HAVE LOADS OF FUN. It’s not a job interview! xx

We don’t date people as a couple, and I for one definitely don’t date other couples as a unit. We’ve actually chatted about this together a few times as I find it a totally bizarre idea, and there is almost nothing I’d less like to do. Thankfully he agrees.

I’ve been sent on blind dates by well meaning friends and they were some of the most hideously awful and awkward evenings of my life. So no, I’d never want to do that to someone else.
